What if we could travel through time and experience the past as lifelike as possible? What if we could virtually explore the world with Google Earth in 3D, but enriched with the dimension of time? Making this space-time travel possible is the ambition of those developing the Amsterdam Time Machine: an infrastructure for spatially exploring historic Amsterdam.
Julia Noordegraaf, speaker at VR Days Europe 2019, is a professor of Digital Heritage in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam. She leads the research program Creative Amsterdam (CREATE) that studies the history of urban creativity using digital data and methods. Her goal with the Time Machine project? To build a simulator for 5,000 years of European history.
In 2019 some of the worlds most notable cultural and historical locations have used AR to improve accessibility, bringing still images to life and educating audiences on historical context and the creative process. Museum Morning features talks by artists, curators, and content creators in XR who are working on projects with cultural and historical significance.
Museum Morning at VR Days Europe is in collaboration with the EYE Film Museum and VRHAM!.
